{"id":6741,"date":"2012-07-23T04:00:12","date_gmt":"2012-07-23T10:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.changespell.com\/wordplay\/?p=6741"},"modified":"2012-07-22T19:08:27","modified_gmt":"2012-07-23T01:08:27","slug":"dart-beagles-new-math","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.changespell.com\/wordplay\/index.php\/2012\/07\/23\/dart-beagles-new-math\/","title":{"rendered":"Dart Beagle&#8217;s New Math"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Earlier this month, we headed up to over nine thousand feet and into the gorgeousness of Cloudcroft, New Mexico.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ahhhhhhhhhhh.\u00a0<\/strong> Totally different ecosystem.\u00a0 Back into the pines I loved in Flagstaff, back into the coolth, into bear country, into altitude sickness&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>(which of these things is not like the other..?)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Actually, we live at 6500 feet right now, which is about a mile up.\u00a0<\/strong> At Flagstaff I was at 7000 feet, which is when I discovered how much I like rarified air; I never had an instant of adjustment time.\u00a0 Those couple extra thousand feet seem to make a bit of a difference, however, especially now that my exercise asthma is so easily triggered.<\/p>\n<p>(I really really wish I hadn&#8217;t forgotten my inhaler.\u00a0 And thank you, THANK YOU to Adrian for the use of hers that first day!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>But I adjusted after a day&#8230;and I wasn&#8217;t really the one to have trouble.\u00a0<\/strong> No, the one of us who got into trouble is the little dog who runs hot as a matter of course: Dart Beagle.\u00a0 Oh, he got so sick!\u00a0 And kept me up half the night just to keep an eye on him.\u00a0 But youth being youth, by the next morning he was happy to run (as you&#8217;ll see!).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cloudcroft is such a fun trial!<\/strong>\u00a0 The company is wonderful, the trial committee works hard to add special touches, and if you listen to the background noise in the video (or read my inevitable smart remarks in the captions) you&#8217;ll see that the atmosphere is full of support and humor.\u00a0 Judges often remark on what a nice area this is in terms of handler camaraderie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As for that new math?\u00a0 That was Dart&#8217;s idea.\u00a0 Just watch the video, you&#8217;ll see.<\/strong><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tpLI9101O0k?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dontcha wish you were me on that weekend?\u00a0 What do you do in your life that gives you the same grins?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this month, we headed up to over nine thousand feet and into the gorgeousness of Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
