Gette and I have been to a lot of shows this year, and I have missed so many Back Country Horsemen projects and meetings that some people may have forgotten who I am!
I am skipping State Fair to give her (and me) a break, but we will be going to the Appaloosa World Show in late October.
I like showing because it’s fun to coach and instructive to get an outside opinion. It pushes me to get better. I don’t love multiday shows that are far from home because then how are the horses at home supposed to get trained? It’s me and me working them. No one else. (And that’s the way I like it.)
I am enjoying helping Woody get back in the swing of things for Mandi after a year off, helping PC get a little more refinement for Cheryl, getting Fireball out on the trail (finally!) for Sheryl and Anthony, being amazed at what a good boy two-year-old Cocoa is (and bragging on hime to Monica), and helping Gette transition out of the bosal into the bridle.
About that…Gette is really good (and cute) in the bosal. Probably the best I’ve ever had, in fact. She’s darn good in the bridle, too, but not as perfect as I’d like, because we are not going for adequate. We are going for impeccable. At the World show…bosal or birdle? Time will tell!
